The P-51 Mustang:

The legendary North American P-51 Mustang is probably one of the most famous fighters of World War II. A total of 15,858 aircraft were built between 1942 and 1948, which is an average of more than 7 aircraft a day. Much of it was used in Europe, the rest in the Pacific. The Mustang had a longer range than any other fighter at the time and could escort long-range bombers anywhere in Europe. In air combat, the machines shone with their great maneuverability and speed. Armament consisted of 6 x 12.7mm Browning M2 machine guns and a selection of bombs and rockets for ground attack.
