The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress:
The B-17 was a World War II US Air Force heavy bomber that entered service with the B version in 1939. Dubbed the "Flying Fortress" for its resilience and ability to remain airborne after heavy fire. The most produced version was the B-17G with 8,680 aircraft. A total of 12,731 machines were built, which had a major impact on the course of the war through operations over Europe and the Pacific.
