The Mil Mi-17 (NATO code name: Hip) is a Russian transport and attack helicopter which is used in Russia under the name Mil Mi-8. The Mil Mi-17 received some improvements over the standard Mil Mi-8 and is a pure export version of it. The helicopter quickly gained a reputation as a reliable workhorse. Since the start of production in 1961, over 17,000 machines in over 120 versions have been built, which makes the Mil Mi the most-produced helicopter in the world.
